Velcro Wrap: Quick Summary

Speedtech is one of the premier distributors and custom fabricators of Velcro wraps and the manufacturer of the Speedwrap® brand of hook and loop cable management products.

The word Velcro is a generic term for hook and loop, as well as the name of a leading manufacturing company of hook and loop material, Velcro USA. The term ‘wraps’ is used generically to refer to hook and loop cable ties, straps, wire and bundle wraps. The term ‘Velcro wraps’ means many things to many people and there are major differences in what are commonly referred to as Velcro wraps. For the purposes of this description, we are using the term ‘Velcro’ to mean hook and loop material.

There are two categories of hook and loop wraps: those made with (1) back-to-back, hook and loop, material and (2) wraps made with ‘other’ hook and loop material.

Back-to-back, Velcro wraps are as described; manufactured with hook on one side and loops on the other side. When wrapped around an object, the product can then be adhered to itself for a secure hold. Speedtech has one of the industry’s most comprehensive product lines of back-to-back Velcro wraps. To view this line, click here. Velcro’s ONE-WRAP® and Speedtech’s, Speedwrap® branded ties are made using a patented, back-to-back, material where the hook and loop components are laminated together without the use of adhesives! See below for more information on this industrial-grade material.

The other category of Velcro wraps are not made with back-to-back, hook and loop, material, but instead with hook & loop on the same side, or wraps with hook on one section and loop on different section (example cinch straps).   This ‘other’ category of hook and loop strap, often involves sonic welding or sewing of different types of materials.

Whether your design requires back-to-back hook and loop (patented ONE-WRAP® or adhesively mated raw material), sewn or welded straps, Speedtech’s custom fabrication staff is ready to assist you with your custom design.

When it comes to purchasing Velcro wraps, there are major differences from one manufacture to another. These differences include:
1.      Material
2.      Shape/design
3.      Put-up

When it comes to purchasing Velcro wraps, there are major differences from one manufacture to another. These differences include:
1.      Material
2.      Shape/design

The Material. Consumers may purchase Velcro wraps (hook and loop straps and ties) made from different material. ONE-WRAP® is the name for Velcro USA’s patented, back-to-back, hook and loop material. Perhaps the single most important consideration when choosing a tie or wrap is the material used when producing it. The ONE-WRAP® material is quite different than lower cost, offshore alternatives. For example, ONE-WRAP® material features a patented method for marrying or laminating hook on one side and the loop component on the other side without the use of adhesives! Alternatively, many lower cost imports, utilize cheaper material where the hook side is married to the loop side, using adhesives. Why do consumers care about material? For many applications, quality matters and users do not want the material to ‘delaminate’ over time. Delaminating occurs when the adhesive fails and the hook material separates from the loop material. When quality matters, Speedtech’s customers purchase higher grade, ONE-WRAP® material found on the Velcro ONE-WRAP or Speedwrap® branded, industrial grade, products. Additionally there are varying strengths and characteristics of materials available depending upon your requirements.

Shape and design- Velcro’s ONE-WRAP® cable tie designs (shape) typically differ from the Speedwrap® line of ties and wraps. Most notably, nearly all of Velcro ONE WRAP® branded ties are sold end-to-end and on a reel. This put-up means the ties (straps or wraps) are packaged on a reel. The tail section of one tie is connected to the head of the next tie on that reel. The users pull off a tie, one-by-one, as needed. Many customers do not care for this design as the head shape is minimized resulting in less surface area for the product to adhere to as well as the hassle of dealing with a reel.

Speedtech’s Speedwrap® hook and loop ties feature a different design as they are sold ‘nested’, side-to-side, and bagged. This is ideal for a retail sale or transportability by the user. Speedtech’s customers appreciate the usability of having their wraps and cable ties nested and bagged and we encourage you to contact us to learn more.
